Why Optimize Your Meta Keywords Tags For The Search Engines?
A meta keyword tag used to be an important tag in your webpage. It gives the search engines a more detailed description of what the webpage is about by using your main keywords followed by a comma inside this tag. This is why the information in each keyword tag, should be unique for each page. As well, focus directly on what the page is about using only key terms.
How to Optimize Your Meta Keywords Tag For Search Engines!
To create a great meta keywords tag, try to keep the character count down to 1000 characters or less including spaces. The keywords you are targeting for that page, should give the search engines a more general idea of what the page is about. Try to use terms that are associated with the information your presenting and may not necessarily be the exact search term you are targeting.
For example, if you are targeting the area 'Newfoundland Tourism' for a keyword, it would be great to list other locations inside Newfoundland like St.johns, Gander, Grand Falls, Clarenville, etc. etc... As well as variations of the actual targeted keyword such as Newfoundland Information, Visiting Newfoundland, Newfoundland Tourism, Newfoundland and Labrador, etc...
Another example, If you were targeting a keyword 'Office Furniture Supplies', you would add associated terms such as Desks, Chairs, Love Seats, Couches, Computers, End Tables, Paper Clips, etc. etc... As well as keywords that directly target the main keyword such as office supplies, business supplies, home office supplies, home office furniture, discount furniture, etc...
Do not repeat any particular word more than five times, for it may put your site at risk of being banned from the search engines. A few years ago, websites have been penalized for overstuffing this area of the page to trick the search engines. This is why it no longer has as much weight in the Ranking Algorithm anymore.
Webmasters Code To Add or Alter Meta Keywords Tags:
<meta Keywords='keyword 1, keyword 2, keyword 3'>
All your targeted keywords should be separated with a comma.
You should place this code in between the opening <head> and closing </head> of your document. Replace the paragraph between the red quotes with your unique description that you have chosen for that page.
Watch Out For Search Engine Spam!
